Philosophy
Technology has the power to transform the way teachers deliver instruction and the way students learn. We believe the following assumptions to be true:
-
Technology is both an end and a means.
- As an end, technology represents a set of tools (hardware, software, and peripherals) that students and staff learn to use.
- As a means, technology is a tool used to construct knowledge, enhancing the processes of learning and teaching by providing new and exciting ways to access, apply, create, and communicate information.
- Technology is most powerful when infused into the school curriculum.
- Technology use will provide a basis for life-long learning and a link between the education process and the workplace.
- Technology allows students and staff access to the world beyond the confines of the school campus.
- Technology allows us to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of our students.
- Technology is a powerful tool which enables learners to become both consumers of information and constructors of knowledge.
- The technology committee is responsible to recognize and evaluate emerging technologies in order to provide expanded opportunities to enhance the teaching and learning processes.
Vision
The emergence and availability of technology has the potential to remodel the education process, has the power to give all students opportunities to learn in a variety of ways, and provides a link between the classroom and the world. It is our vision to provide St. Mary’s community with equitable and universal access to a technology rich environment, which will facilitate authentic, project-based activities, stimulate student collaboration, and foster comfortable and confident technology use.
Mission
Technology will be used to enhance the mission of St. Mary’s School as we seek to maximize the potential of each child spiritually, academically, culturally, and physically. It is our goal to prepare our school community to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing electronic information society.
