I was raised in the Spokane Valley, graduating from Central Valley High School and Central Washington University. I began teaching in 1967, quit to raise a family of 4 children , all of whom graduated from St. Mary's. I    returned to teaching at St. Mary's in 1987. I have taught Pre-K through 2nd grade. St. Mary's remains a significant gift to our family which now includes 6 grandchildren,two of whom currently attend St. Mary's.

Tabletop Activities--develop fine motor control

     Puzzles

     Numbersense

     1-1 correspondence

Social science/Science--

     "Lets Find Out" booklet focused on monthly themes

 

Signing--

     We use a combination of ASL and Signed English

    

Religion--"SEEDS"

     Liturgical booklet focused on the Sunday Gospel

 

Mass--

     Begins the first Thursday in October

     Every Thursday at 8:15

 

Communication

     Family Letter from Mrs. Smith every Friday

     Binders are sent home on Friday and come back the following Monday

     Binders are accumulative; all work is kept in the binder

     Online--St. Mary's School Bulletin--"The Bell"

 

Important Reminders

 

Buddies--

     Each child will be matched up with one or two 8th graders

     Buddies help us with special projects and accompany us to Mass

 

Outside play--

     We go outside EVERY DAY

     Please send your child with appropriate outerwear

 

Birthdays--

     Child can wear free dress

     Child can bring a treat for snack--packaged snacks are preferred

     Child takes Birthday Bear home for 2 days and writes in BB's journal

     Summer birthdays can select any day that is not another child's real birthday

 

Uniform--

     No belts, No boots, No hats, No sunglasses, No finger polish, Plain socks

 

Conferences--

     Scheduled and held every November and March

 

Please Remember--

     to sign you child "in" and sign your child "out"

     to keep you child home of he/she is ill

     upcoming school events are in the St. Mary's Bell "Online"

     book orders can be placed online or returned to school
