Dear Parents of 7th and 8th Graders,

I feel fortunate to be teaching your students this year. 

In 7th Grade English the curriculum covered is basic grammar and writing. In grammar basic concepts are reviewed and new concepts added. Learning the structure of the language is important to aid in writing. Diagramming is part of this process. In writing all the different modes (narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive) are covered. We do not write every day in class, but writing is done in all the curricular areas especially in literature, religion, and social studies,  so the students get lots of practice. All teachers have high expectations for writing.

In 8th Grade English grammar skills are reviewed. More writing is covered. In addition to reviewing the modes of writing, the students do autobiographical essays and a research paper in the spring.

Both the 7th and 8th grade participate in the Speech Tournament which will be in February.
