8th Grade Algebra

Our first task will be to tackle functions and making expressions from models.

Algebra class will require daily attention at home. Our students have been very successful on the Prep placement exams because of the willingness of our students and their families to work so hard at their studies. Algebra will be challenging, but I am commited assist each student in reaching her or his goals.

OPI

I hope you are all busily working on fund raising. The time goes quickly this year. I will schedule our first OPI meeting shortly.

Other thoughts and reminders...

Even though the eighth grade year is an exciting year, I want to remind the students that it is important for them to stay focused on their academics. Because high school is more fast-paced with even more teachers, it is important for the students to learn good study habits in and out of the classroom. It is crucial for them to learn self-management and time-management skills so that they are prepared for the classes that await them in high school. The eighth grade teachers are committed to spending extra time to meet each student's needs. Please encourage your student to ask their teachers for help when ever they feel that they might need it. If you wish to see your child's current grades at any time, contact me and I will get them for you.

FOURTH GRADE

I am so excited to be teaching fourth grade again this year. I am even more excited that I will now be teaching religion. My favorite thing to do is to share my love and knowledge of the Catholic faith with young people.

Math:

Because of our needs, we will be doing daily multiplication practice. This needs to be practiced at home. We are behind in this area.

We are also working on place value and looking a just how much a million is.

We are planning to begin doing Accelerated Math soon. I am going to work with half of the class at a time while the other half is working on technology with Ms. Thomas.

Remember to practice the basic facts daily: We take daily timed tests in multiplication, addition, and subtraction. Some of the students are quite adept, and some of them are struggling mightily. If the progress reports do not reflect 10's on these, you should consider spending some extra time on these. If you need suggestions or tools, please let me know.

Religion:

The theme this year will be the Ten Commandments. Before getting to the actual laws, we will first try and build our relationship with God, and get to know Jesus a bit better.

Social Studies:

This year we will study and get to know the regions of the United States and the history of our own state of Washington. We will also look at different kinds of maps and learn some geography skills.
